. >> ari, before last week, president obama was showing strong signs of improvement on the economy, closing the gap in most polls. but i want to show you a number. the pew poll shows that 54% of registered voters agree with the phrase doubt that obama knows how to turn the economy around. what do you make of that? >> that's been consistent, and it's been mitt romney's hope. if this is an election about the state of the economy and whether the president is partially or enough to blame for the bad economy, he's going to lose. that's why you see the president has been launching an attack against bain and other things that he was doing. so that's been the weakness and the numbers, too, that i'm looking for on the inside the polls are mitt romney's attributes and his ratings among independents because forget whether the polls are skewed for ds or rs, as long as mitt romney keeps winning independents, chances are mitt romney's going to win. in this pew poll, he won independents today, having nothing to do with whether it's skewed one party or the other. that's something to keep your eye on. romne

i expect barack obama to come back in two weeks and be far more effective. but the spin from the democrats, i've got to admit, has been pretty weak. >> if you are in charge of prep for them over the next two weeks, how would you alter strategy, if at all? >> well, the for matt is an interesting one that should play to barack obama's strength. it's a town hall format. you'll see a far more aggressive president and he'll try to put him on defense. the question, really, is it's got to be on issues of foreign policy and areas where he might get to do that. so interesting time for the president. and like i said, the hardest part about this and out of all the element os testify campaign, debates are the worst. it parolizes the campaign. it seizes up, particularly if you come out of the gate and do not have a good performance. it puts all the pressure on the president, puts pressure on the staff. so the next two weeks, not going to be fun in the obama camp but i would expect a sharper more offensive-minded debate. >> as you point out, you're dealing with an area wh

it's very striking in the obama team announcement his campaign the last five weeks which is what, the last four years something like that. >> if you elect obama the next four years than the last four years. that's true and for reelecting obama but it's not an inspiring forward-looking slogan about what mitt romney will do. obama has cast his lot and it's hard to blame the guy that wants to get pretty elected -- reelected with a approach to the democratic and independent constituencies to try to scare them about romney is just bush and all that. i don't think we are going to get the training he would like. i love little less pessimistic that means they can't govern effectively. i do think reality matters as we have been saying. we are going to hit a cliff in all kind of ways. but it is a real cliff in 2013 in the sense that you cannot sustain these obviously for too long they can't keep printing money and expect the world to take it or why treasury forever. the economy is slow and may be going into another dip. the foreign policy challenges. i think the next president will have a momen

you got to wonder where obama finds the staffers. i haven't seen this many clowns since ringling brothers had a job fair. who was the source who said the video caused all of this? video no one heard of until after the attacks. it's not a question. it's a scandal. it points to intellectual corruption of the highest order. deep desire to blame america for evil in the world while excusing the real perpetrators. breaking the paperclip i'm so angry. it's a question that changes an election. we can't remember how the media enabled this. i remember one guy getting it right. >> freedom of speech is only valuable if you exercise. it you abdicate it with election prejudices. you sold yourself cheap. setting a horrible precedent. you're december industr destroyr profession. >> greg: i should have changed the shirt. i'm wearing the same thing. he is gorgeous, nonetheless. others have picked up the ball. >> we have a first amendment not because the founding fathers loved the press. they hated the press. but they said to have a free country and be
